What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a complete system of natural medicine. Patients are treated as a whole, not only for the medical complaint they present with. Homeopathic medicines help to stimulate the body’s own natural healing mechanism.
Why use Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a natural, safe, gentle and effective system of medicine that can be used to treat everyone including babies, children, pregnant women and the elderly. Patients are prescribed homeopathic medicines based on their unique, individual needs. Homeopathic medicines are safe, non-toxic, and rarely produce unwanted effects. Homeopathy can help for both acute and chronic diseases. Homeopathy can be used alongside other treatments and will not interfere with the beneficial effects of conventional medication. Homeopathy can be used successfully by qualified vets to treat animals including pets, farm animals, competition horses and even wild animals.
Millions of people use Homeopathy
Homeopathy is one of the most commonly used systems of medicine in the world today. In the UK, 12% of the population (equivalent to nearly 8 million) trust Homeopathy. 100 million European citizens use over-the-counter or prescribed homeopathic medicines. Homeopathy is available as part of the national health systems in Britain, Germany, France, India and Brazil – 56% of French people use Homeopathy. India leads in terms of number of people using Homeopathy, with 100 million people depending solely on Homeopathy for their medical care. Well over 200 million people around the world use Homeopathy.
Mechanism of action
We do not yet have a scientific explanation to describe how Homeopathic medicines work. This is true of many other things in the world around us, such as how anaesthetics work, or even gravity. It is clear we do not have to fully understand how something works, in order to know that it does work and to benefit from it. Clinical outcomes and over 200 years of use demonstrate that patients benefit from Homeopathic treatment.
The safety of Homeopathy
According to a report in the BMJ, 3% of conventional medical treatments are potentially harmful. Every year, 1 million Britons need hospital treatment because of the side-effects caused by conventional drugs. The European Commission estimated in 2008 that adverse reactions kill 197,000 EU citizens annually, at a cost of €79 billion.
We pay for the NHS via our taxes, so when we are ill, we should receive the treatment option of our choice, which we know works best for our individual needs. Homeopathy was included in the NHS Act of 1948 and is available on the NHS. Two studies recorded the outcomes and costs of treatment by German and French GPs who integrated Homeopathy in their practice, compared with those who did not. The results of the two studies are congruent: GPs who integrated Homeopathy in their practice achieved better results for similar cost. In the UK, the NHS spends just .0001% of its drugs budget on Homeopathy, treating over 40,000 patients a year, who often suffer chronic illness that was previously managed with much more expensive drugs.
Homeopathy and conventional medicine can be used alongside each other when appropriate. Homeopaths do not advise against other medical intervention. Patients are encouraged to make an informed choice. Homeopaths believe that patients should be allowed to make an informed choice about vaccines, or any other medical interventions, based on individual research and knowledge of any familial susceptibility to particular vaccines/medicines. Homeopaths will expect to liaise with other health professionals to ensure the best standard of care for the patient.
Homeopathy is fun to use and easy to learn. With just a handful of remedies even a beginner can make a big difference to everyday health problems. Homeopathic remedies are relatively inexpensive, long-lasting, and safe for all ages. Many of the common ones are available from natural health stores and pharmacies in either 6c or 30c potency. As nearly everyone experiences the same symptoms with first-aid injuries, it is easy to learn which remedy to give for each situation.

If you’re a mother-to-be who is looking for a way to alleviate some of the discomfort that goes along with pregnancy, a prenatal massage can be the solution. Prenatal (pregnancy massage) massages are a natural way to support your special needs as your body goes through dramatic changes and is a wonderful way of promoting your over-all health and well-being.
Pregnancy Massage offers a range of benefits;
Reducing the muscular discomfort, back and sciatic pain by encouraging blood flow to the affected areas relaxing tension and reducing stiffness.
Massaging the soft tissues to relieve strain on weight bearing joints.
Stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers, into the brain and nervous system.
Helps increase blood circulation, which in turn delivers more oxygen and nutrients to the mother and baby.
Increases lymphatic circulation helping to reduce swelling in the extremities and promote toxin elimination.
Depending on your specific needs, various acupressure points can be stimulated to ease symptoms such as morning sickness, headaches and muscle cramps.
It stimulates the release of the natural hormone serotine, which helps you to relax, this is passed on to baby so when you are feeling calm your baby does too and promotes restful sleep.
During the treatment you will be positioned on your side and supported by pillows, to ease pressure on your back and give you maximum comfort. You will be covered with towels so that only the body part that is being massaged is exposed. Treatments last from 30 minutes for back neck and shoulder massage or 60 minutes when working on the full body, and the treatment can be adapted to work on any areas which may be causing discomfort.
Massage during pregnancy is safe from 12 weeks up until nine months, however if you have a high risk pregnancy it is best to seek advice from your midwife or physician before having a treatment.

A Mindful Life, the course to help you get where you want to be by knowing where you really are.
The ‘A Mindful Life’ is an innovative new programme aimed at helping people to overcome the obstacles that act as barriers to a peaceful, centred and fulfilled life. The course uses a combination of Mindfulness , MBSR, MBCT, CBT, NLP and self Hypnosis, synthesised into a straight forward framework suitable for anyone no previous experience required.
Each session consists of a basic grounding mediation to help us to get into the right Mindset to participate, followed by a discussion on the topic of the session accompanied by specific activities which we learn and then apply to given situations in our everyday life.
The overall aim of the course is to enable people to make their life feel better, and feel better about their life. We can’t always choose what goes on in our lives, things such as work pressure, relationship problems or financial pressures, what we can choose (yes really) is how we respond to these challenges. The course helps us to learn how to make these choices by being able to reprogram our thought habits and take control of our actions mindfully.
The class us taught by our experienced meditation teacher Andrea Bradley who developed this programme as a way of providing people with the opportunity to take back control in situations which often feel outside of our control.
different people react differently in the same situation, because we generally learn how to respond based on our past experience, so let’s use that same learning process but take control of it mindfully.
The only commitment required is to attend a course of 4 sessions. The course runs in a series of short courses of 4 weeks each. In total we look at 12 life areas, and to to cover all of the 12 topics involves 4 short courses, however attending 1 block will give sufficient grounding in the techniques so with practice you may choose to apply this to your life after 1 course. The venue will be confirmed when you book, but will be local to our centre.
Ring 01922649142 for details bookeing is essential
The next course will run on a Monday evening 6.30 till 8pm approximately
Monday 28th of September, 5th of October, 12th of October, 19th of October.

Mom’s and Dad’s in Walsall, are you worrying about your daughters and the HPV vaccination? Homeopathy may have answers
HPV Vaccine and Homeopathy
Is your daughter suffering from inexplicable symptoms following a Gardasil vaccine?
The European Medicines Agency has begun a review of HPV vaccines, focusing on reported side-effects of complex regional pain syndrome and a condition where standing up causes dizziness and rapid heart rate.
This follows on from UK media reports regarding debilitating side-effects after HPV vaccination. Other countries are taking action following reports of increasing numbers of girls suffering suspected side-effect. Indeed, last year Japan withdrew its governmental recommendation for the HPV vaccine because of reported side-effects.
A few facts about Gardasil, HPV and cervical cancer: –
- The Gardasil vaccine was ‘fast-tracked’ – it was developed and on the market in America in six months, despite the FDA requirement for new vaccines to undergo testing and a waiting period of four years.
- The vaccine was only tested on 21,000 girls and women aged 16-26 years before its launch. This is not the target market of 12 year olds.
- Long term results are not certain, but suggest that the vaccine offers up to four years of ‘protection’ rendering a vaccine at 12 years old redundant by the age of consent.
- 70% of all HPV infections resolve themselves without treatment within a year. Within two years, the number climbs to 90 percent. Of the remaining 10 percent of HPV infections, only half will develop into cervical cancer.
- Pap smears alone prevent over 80% of cervical cancer
So, how does Homeopathy fit into all this? Homeopathy can support people in their health struggles – it treats the person, not the condition and can increase vitality to restore equilibrium in the body.
So, if your daughter is experiencing unpleasant symptoms following a Gardasil vaccine, consider Homeopathic treatment to improve overall wellbeing.

Just concluding a really nice time at the Mental Health Awareness event at The Crossing at St Paul’s in Walsall Town centre.
We met up with some great people both service users and staff from other local agencies who support folk with mental health issues and there carers. We talked mainly about how to access those services such as ours which span the gap between what the NHs provides and the self help measures people can put in place within their own lives.
Met a lovely lady from Romania who was practicing her English while getting advice about issues with her little girl, a gent who is very interested in Mindfulness and a lady with who me we explored how her taking care of herself by relaxing physically and treating herself kindly can help her mental health concerns. Plus lots more!
If you weren’t able to come along but would like to talk about any of the above please do get in touch.

Using an infusion of massage strokes, rhythmic acupressure, body rocking and assisted stretches this massage is both a relaxing and energising treatment.
Thai massage has been used effectively to treat stress and tension, back pain, muscle strain and injuries.
Most muscular pain and is a result of muscles contracting under the influence of repetitive strain. AS Tension builds in the affected muscle causing it contracts and shortens hindering the free movement of joints and reducing circulation. The lack of fresh blood, oxygen and nutrients cause muscle to weaken and as waste products begin to accumulate, muscles fatigue causing aches and pains. Tendons attached to the muscle become over-stretched limiting movement at the joints.
The pressing techniques of Thai massage releases tension increasing the circulation to the muscle, and drainage strokes assist waste to be removed. The prepared muscles are then stretched to a range a little more than would be possible unaided improving flexibility and mobility at the joints.
Thai massage stretches the muscles back to their normal resting length, relieves tension and strengthens the circulation. With regular treatment joint mobility is restored and flexibility can be increased.
For those with good mobility and muscle strength looking to relax fatigued and tired muscles, improve flexibility and increase mobility Traditional Thai Yoga Massage is ideal.
This treatment is conducted on the floor and the therapist will use feet, knees and arms to create deeper pressure, and assist you to into a number of classic yoga poses. The larger poses are particularly effective at increase muscle strength, stamina and mobility ideal for those seeking a more intense treatment.
If you are unsure which treatment is right for you, then your therapist will be pleased to give you guidance.

Walsall is an active place, with lots of sports clubs open spaces and organised events? At Walsall Mind and Body lots of our clients are Athletes and people who spend lots of time in the gym, but the majority are just working folk doing their very best to stay healthy and well sometimes not as successfully as they might wish. Keeping fit can be a hard slog, and for many of us, just staying in shape is a challenge when we have desk jobs or other sedentary habits. But fitness and performance is not just about athletics or looking good, it’s also about maintaining our health and well being. We may not archive the peak fitness of a top athlete, but by being active, developing and enhancing the action of muscles, by having a healthy heart and lungs we can avoid future health problems and things like getting out of breath while doing simple tasks.
Muscles are at the core of this, coordination, strength, stamina the ability to stretch and flex all require particular muscles used for every day movement, lifting carrying and walking. We all have some common basic needs, but then depending on lifestyle some individual needs vary. We all need stability of posture, upper body strength and hand eye coordination, with a balance of gross and fine motor skills, strong leg muscles. In addition some of us will require extra development to enable us to do our jobs. For example a roofer Needs a flexible posture, strong leg muscles, and the ability to balance, lift, stretch, twist and bend.
In developing or maintaining our body we need to pay attention to aches and pains as these can be messages from muscles, bones and joints asking for help. Anyone can benefit from a sports massage, because it not only enhances your fitness, it also reduces the risk of injury and enables you to sustain the wellbeing of your muscles for longer and over a longer period of time. Athletes, active people, less active people, people with active or sedentary jobs can all benefit from the kind of massage that will focus on issues such as the build up of stress in hypertonic muscle.
This type of massage is very varied and not always about lying down and relaxing while a therapist works on your muscles with gentle strokes, although that may be included, sometimes it is is an active and interactive form of treatment which involves the active manipulation of soft tissue, flexing of joints, pressure on trigger points and deep intensive work on specific muscles. Unlike a full body Swedish massage, sports massage will focus on particular muscle or set of muscles and work on them extensively.
The benefits of ongoing sports massage include; reduced recovery time after an injury (major or minor) reduced risk of minor injury or wear and tear resulting from routine performance and reduction in the risk of major injury due to accidents or overreaching in activities (think about Wayne Rooneys famous metatarsal or the crusciate ligament injuries which are the Bain of footballers) the extension of your active years and of course better health and well being.
At Walsall MindandBody we recommend building up a relationship with your sports massage therapist discussing with them, your lifestyle, sport or gym programme were appropriate, your occupation and its demands, your strengths and weakness’s etc so they can help you improve and plan. By getting to know your aims they can work closely with you to help you achieve them and keep in tip top shape.
