F.A.Q

Can you guaruntee success?

No, no one can guarantee success in solving any problem. I can guarantee that if I don’t think I can help I will tell you at the start and let you choose what to do. Sometimes we think we want to change but really deep down we can feel quiet comfortable with our habits, so the extent to which you are genuinely committed to change will make a big difference to your success in changing. This means that sometimes before we actually start working on your change we might do some work on your motivation. You increase your chances of success by; being honest with your therapist, by cooperating in the sessions and by doing any follow up work that is suggested.

Is Hypnotherapy mind control?

No, absolutely not. Hypnosis is a trance state in which you are very relaxed and open to new idea’s. However you are still in control, not the therapist. No on can make you do anything that you don’t want to do, or anything that is ‘out of character’ (see below about TV hypnotists) or which you believe is wrong. You might have seen films in which people are ‘hypnotised’ to kill people on command, often by remote control. Well I’ve seen Godzilla in a film but I don’t expect to see him on the 9 o’clock news. Its just fiction, Hypnotherapy is safe, effective and usually enjoyable.

Can Hypnotherapy do any Harm?

We wouldn’t practice it if hypnosis was harmful. The worst that can happen is that you feel a bit emotional or tired afterwards. Hypnosis is natural normal and enjoyable, a really effective way to make changes. Also a therapist can only do what you have given them permission to do ie help you stop smoking so if something else occurs your subconscious will override it, to protect you.

Will this be like Hypnotists I see on TV?

No, it won’t. Professional stage hypnotists choose subjects who are likely to do outrageous things, because it’s in their nature. They don’t force them, its natural to them (whether they want to admit it or not). Also stage hypnotists are very good at their job and give a professional performance; they manage the performance of their subjects as well. Also, the subject gives the stage hypnotist to make them perform. In a therapy setting the permission the client gives is specific to helping you, not making you dance like a chicken.

Can anyone be Hypnotised?

Most people can be hypnotised though it’s true to say that some people enter hypnosis much easily than others. The key is, do you want to be hypnotised. Do you think you would enjoy relaxing and listening to music or to someone talking quietly to you while you drift around in a peaceful sleepy way? I enjoy hypnosis and most of my clients agree it’s quite a gentle way to spend some time.

What will hapen if I book a session?

You will come to our centre in a quiet relaxed setting just off a main suburban road with plenty of on road parking and privacy. A therapist will have a chat with you about what you have come to get help with and agree with you the best way to help you. If we agree on hypnotherapy, then you will be asked to relax in a chair (perhaps with some soft music) and be asked to listen to a therapist guide you through some visualisations, perhaps given some new idea’s to consider. It is likely you will then be given some things to try at home, perhaps learning self hypnosis. You may come back for a number of sessions to work through a plan to get some real changes in your life. Most people come for between 2 and 6 sessions.

How many sessions would I need to book?

Your first consultation session (30 minutes) is free, just for you to find out if this is what you want to do. After that if you choose to proceed, we may discuss how many sessions we (you and your therapist) think it’s likely to take to make a difference for you. Obviously if you think it’s to many you don’t have to go ahead the choice is yours. The things that will help determine the number of sessions are the complexity of the issue, the length of time you’ve have the problem, and what seems to be its underlying cause.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a method of stimulating reflex areas in the feet, hands, or ears that correspond to various parts of the body. Correct stimulation of reflex areas can relieve stress and tension, deeply relaxing the whole body from head to toe. This therapeutic relaxation serves to normalise the body's functioning, effectively facilitating the body's healing process.

Is Reflexology something new?

No, evidence shows that reflexology was practiced by ancient Egyptian physicians over 4000 years ago.
It is also believed that reflexology was an integral part of some very ancient healing practices. Like many other recently revived forms of knowledge, reflexology is a valuable contribution to the modern person's healthcare.

Does Reflexology diagnose?

No, reflexology identifies where stress and tension is located in the body. This can be a valuable assistance to the diagnosis process, but it is not sufficient by itself.
If a client has identified other symptoms that coincide with the stress and tension identified by reflexology, and then they should consult a medical doctor for a diagnosis.
Reflexology can however help a client to identify area’s of tension or stress within the body and help them to deal with this naturally.

What can I expect in a Reflexology session?

As the reflex areas of your feet, hands or ears are stimulated you may from time to time experience pin-prick-like sensations. These sensations result from sensitivity that frequently reflects the presence of tension in the corresponding part of the body.
If it is not comfortable for you, you should ask the person who is doing the reflexology to decrease the amount of pressure that they are using.
It is important that you are comfortable with the stimulation, as relaxation is the primary goal of reflexology, and you need to feel comfortable in order to relax in your session.
Most clients report finding reflexology very pleasant and relaxing

How long does the effect of a Massage last?

The duration of the effects of a massage vary greatly from person to person depending on your physical and mental condition, activities, ability to relax, and ability to heal. If you are receiving massage to help heal injury or to get rid of chronic pain, you usually need to receive weekly massage until you reach that goal.

If you are receiving massage for prevention, health maintenance, or just to feel better, you have more choice in how often you receive massage. The effects of regular massage are cumulative. A massage every week or two can make a big difference in your overall health and tension levels. Even a monthly massage is beneficial. Make regular massage part of your health maintenance program (along with good nutrition and exercise), and you'll feel better.

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is using pure essential oils in various blends quantities and various ways to stimulate our olfactory senses triggering therapeutic responses of our physical, mental and emotional bodies based on ancient healing traditions and practices.

Aromatherapy has been around for a long time. It was brought about as a treatment to help heal what ails us. It uses our sense of smell and other more complex and subtle responses to the oils to provide a therapeutic benefit. Besides activating our sense of smell, aromatherapy activates: our Mind; our Memory; Movement in our Body; and our Breathing. It assists us in our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

What is "Essential oil"?

Basically, an essential oil is the 100% pure essence of a living plant, it taken from the seeds, or rinds, or leaves, stems, flowers, petals, bark, sap, or roots. The essential oil is extracted using methods that include steam distillation, pressing, water extraction enabling us to separate the oil from the remaining plant matter.

Should we Eat or Drink Essential oils?

Never eat or drink essential oil, some of them are toxic, even in relatively small amounts. However when used under careful supervision or in very very small amounts some oils have a beneficial effect and have been used for many years in medicines.pressing, water extraction enabling us to separate the oil from the remaining plant matter.

Can oils be used safely directly onto the skin?

Only a trained aromatherapist should blend oils for used directly onto the skin. The skin as a dynamic barrier and interacts with what it comes into contact with, but also it is delicate and some people have particular allergies or sensitive skin so a detailed history is taken before any oil is used. As a general rule, we do not 100% pure essential oils directly on the skin, we add them to carrier oils in a carefully measured blend. Since they’re pure and highly concentrated oils, some people’s skin can be very sensitive to certain oils and of course some oils are actually toxic or should not be used by some people, for example if you are pregnant.

What is having a Massage like?

Massage on healthy tissue usually feels good. Massage around injured, painful, or tense areas can cause discomfort. Tell your massage therapist straight away if you begin to feel discomfort, this may be the result of deep tissue or injury treatment massage may leave you feeling sore for a day or two. Always let your massage therapist know how you felt, so he or she can adjust the massage as needed.

Most clients report finding massage a pleasant and very relaxing experience and most of us enjoy being touched in a comforting way. Some people book a massage just to help them relax others may have aches or pains and book a massage to help these specific area’s.

During a massage, you may notice that some muscles are particularly sore, even though you had not noticed soreness before the massage. Here's why: Each cell in your body, including muscle cells, is like a tiny factory that takes in nutrition, produces energy, and produces waste. If your body and circulatory system are working at peak efficiency, these waste products are flushed out of your body. However, often things aren’t working as well as they could because of stress, tension, too little exercise, too much exercise, medical conditions, and other factors. Then waste products may build up in your muscles, creating congestion that causes soreness on touch. Massage, of course, helps clear out that congestion

Why does a Massage Therapist ask about my medical history and medications?

A responsible massage therapist always asks about your medical history, and may ask you fill out and sign a consent form. Although massage has many wonderful benefits, it is not appropriate for people with some medical conditions and sometimes must be used cautiously. Be assured that all medical information is confidential.

You will only ever be asked sensible and relevant questions to help a therapist ensure your wellbeing and the best treatment to offer. If you prefer not to answer these questions then obviously this is your right, but it would make it very difficult to provide you with appropriate treatment, so if you are worried please discuss this with your therapist before proceeding.

Must I remove my clothes?

You do not have to do anything that you so not want to do. Usually a full body massage are done with all top clothes removed, and you are covered with a sheet or towel. Your massage therapist will be concerned for your comfort and privacy throughout any treatment. However, you prefer not to undress, discuss this with your therapist. Some styles of massage are performed fully clothed, for example Indian head or seated massage in a chair.

What are the effects of Chronic muscle tension?

Chronic muscle tension inhibits circulation, which means your muscles, and other tissues may not be receiving the nutrition they need and waste products aren’t being taken away. The lack of nutrition and build up of cellular waste irritate nerve endings, resulting in weakness and pain. This may even affect your immune system.

Chronic muscle tension also inhibits movement. Movement is accomplished by paired groups of muscles alternately contracting and extending to move the bones to which the muscles attach. Chronically tense muscles disrupt the symmetry of balanced forces acting on the skeleton, holding bones out of position and causing misalignments. For every chronically tight muscle, it’s opposite is chronically stretched and weak. These unbalanced forces also cause ligaments to become strained as they try to brace misaligned joints. All this makes injury more likely.

Chronic muscle tension also uses up energy, so you feel tired more easily.

What is coaching and who does it help?

Coaching is not new; it’s been around as long as we have. We coach someone when we help them to bring about improvements in their life of performance. Athletes have coaching to improve their technique, footballers to improve their game and actors to improve their performance. A coach is a person with skills in coaching not necessarily in athletics or acting. A professional coach not a professional footballer coaches most professional athletes.

Coaching is a powerful relationship between two people, one of whom acts as a guide and coaches the other towards a specific improvement. Dream Futures offers a wide range of coaching services. Go to our ‘about Coaching’ page for more info.
